My love for dogs and animals goes back as far as I can remember. As a youngster, I always dreamed of becoming a vet - it felt like the most natural thing in the world to want to help animals live better, happier lives. But, as life often does, it took me in a different direction.

I’ve always shared my life with dogs. My first was a gentle but nervous rescue cocker spaniel, and since then, I’ve had the joy of living with three wonderful boxers over the years. These days, I’m lucky enough to share my home with my senior boxer boy, Picasso, and a new addition of a spirited young Boston terrier girl, Cosmo - both of whom remind me daily why I chose this path.

After nearly two decades in the corporate world, I was made redundant - a moment that, rather than feeling like an ending, opened a door. It gave me the chance to finally pursue what had always been in my heart. That’s when I discovered Canine Myotherapy, and more specifically, Galen Myotherapy.

From the moment I came across Galen Myotherapy, it just clicked. Their ethical, choice-led approach and commitment to seeing the dog as an individual felt completely right to me. The tutors are not only deeply knowledgeable but genuinely compassionate - exactly the kind of people I wanted to learn from and grow alongside. The teamwork, support, and shared knowledge in the Galen community have been an incredible part of this journey.

The course itself has been both fascinating and challenging, diving into canine anatomy from the cellular level through to the full musculoskeletal structures. I learnt a whole new language to be able to communicate anatomical details accurately and confidently - a skill that now allows me to engage effectively with veterinary professionals. This depth of learning has laid a strong foundation for becoming the skilled, empathetic therapist I aspire to be.

Throughout my studies, my senior boxer has been my loyal and patient practice partner. He now benefits from regular myotherapy sessions, helping him manage osteoarthritis and maintain a good quality of life in his senior years. My young Boston terrier, meanwhile, was recently diagnosed with bilateral luxating patella. While this came as a shock, I now feel empowered to help manage her condition as part of a multimodal approach, working closely with her vet and other paraprofessionals to keep her comfortable and active as she grows older.

Seeing the difference myotherapy can make - not just in my dogs, but in the dogs I’ve treated as well - has been incredibly fulfilling. I’ve also had the privilege of supporting dogs in palliative care and look forward to expanding my work to include sporting and show dogs of all breeds and sizes, helping to maintain their peak performance.

Beyond my practice, I plan to volunteer in shelters and rescues to support dogs still waiting for their forever homes - to bring them a bit of relief, comfort, and care in the meantime. Every dog deserves to be seen, to be heard, and to be treated with respect & kindness.
In every treatment, I aim to combine passion with purpose, always in an ethical, dog-centred way. My goal is not just to treat, but to truly see the dog in front of me - to listen, to feel, and to bring compassion into every touch. That, to me, is what it’s all about - supporting dogs’ comfort and wellbeing, and what it has always been about, in my heart.
