Since my childhood, I have had a deep love for animals. Although I couldn't have a dog growing up, I took care of other people's cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and even rats while their owners were away. I also enjoyed taking walks with other people's dogs and surrounded myself with animals as much as possible. As an adult, I adopted my first cat, and, later, my first dog - a 9-month-old Border Collie-Schæfer mix. Dogs and cats have been an essential part of my life.
My interest in dogs deepened when I adopted Spike, a Border Collie mix from a kennel. Spike's behavior was different from any other dog I had in my life, and although we had a good relationship, something was not right. This led me to study dog behaviour at the Innlandet Hundesenter Education Center, where I learned about the connection between pain and behaviour. One of the most important lessons I learned was about the dog's language and calming signals from Turid Rugaas. After this, it was easier to understand what he tried to communicate. I was also a teacher at the Innlandet Hundesenter, which gave me even more knowledge about dogs. I continued my education by taking several courses, including one with Julia Robertson from Galen Myotherapy, which opened my eyes to the connection between pain and behaviour in dogs.
While studying, I ran the Østfold Hundesenter, where I offered courses and behavioural consultations. I always emphasized the importance of the dog's language, signals, and freedom of choice. I also introduced an enriched environment in my courses to make them more effective and demonstrate calming signals and giving the dogs freedom of choice.
Now that I have completed my studies with Galen, I want to use my knowledge to help dogs with both body and mind. I plan to collaborate with veterinarians to provide the best possible care for dogs in Østfold and surrounding areas. To make dogs feel safe, I will provide consultations in my customers' homes, even if it requires me to travel long distances. However, there will be an additional charge for my transportation costs.
