I have always been passionate in animal welfare and their physiological and psychological wellbeing
Alfie (the Woofington Logo), was my boy, he was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia at the age of 6 yrs old. He was a rottweiler cross poodle and as any owner would, I wanted the best treatment for him. After lots of research and vet consent, we started hydrotherapy and laser/massage on a weekly basis, this meant he only had to have a small amount of pain relief and anti-inflammatory drugs until he got older. Alfie loved the therapy and he looked forward to the hydro, enjoying the drive out, swimming with his favourite therapist, playing with the toys and then the drive home to cuddles on the sofa with blankets after!!
When laser and massage was introduced, he took to it immediately as he realised this was a gentle and relaxing way towards pain relief and I saw the impact both mentally and physically for Alfie, it was so positive. When he struggled to walk I decided to buy a pram (a big one)!!, so he could still get out everyday to the park, see his friends and go on day trips to the seaside.
When Alfie passed, the laser/massage therapist (and now friend) mentioned about me training to become a massage therapist as I have a love for dogs and still need to be around them. After intensive research I came across Galen Myotherapy. Their ethos is wonderful, it’s passive PACT which allows the dog to have a choice, the dogs are never forced to receive therapy and they can get up and move around if they wish to do so, or lay there and enjoy the massage!
The course was intense but also fulfilling as it covers the dogs anatomy, cells, muscles, fascia, skeletal, circulatory and lymphatic systems, skin and organs. The course also focuses on how to massage and why we massage. Galen also encompasses exercise rehabilitation to improve muscle and joint movement. Myotherapy provides pain management, releases tension, improves posture and gives your dog a sense of wellbeing.
I then introduced Laser therapy to my portfolio as it is a non intrusive low level laser which reduces pain and inflammation.
Emmi-Pet Teeth Cleaning is another addition which also helps the dogs overall wellbeing.
