Group CPD for Canine Physiotherapists and Rehab Specialists

Group CPD for Canine Physiotherapists and Rehab Specialists

Complement your services by integrating Galen Myotherapy programmes into your practice to offer enhanced rehabilitation outcomes.

This CPD is for canine physiotherapist and rehab specialists who are looking for an in-depth course and a complementary perspective on how to incorporate functional anatomy and advanced myofascial massage techniques within a rehabilitation plan.

We’ll examine your real case scenarios and have an in depth look into canine posture and how that can form an accurate biomechanical analysis. By looking at posture from a 360 perspective it will give you an insight into movement patterns, gait issues and pain/discomfort.

Understanding the role of fascia within common bracing patterns is an integral part to unlocking a dog’s chronic muscular dysfunction. Galen Myotherapy’s methodology will give you a deeper and unique insight into each individual’s specific issues to offer enhanced treatment plans.

'Many thanks for delivering such a brilliant CPD! Galen’s passion for dogs and openness in sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience made for engaging lectures and rewarding practical sessions. Galen Myotherapy has shown me a new way to approach assessment and treatment, consider functional movement and fascia, and many of my patients are benefitting from it'.

  • COURSE TOPICS

Topic 1: Postural assessment (using case study dogs)

Postural assessment discussion of three case study dogs/clients from photos and videos (supplied pre-programme). Looking at detailed aspects of each of the dogs muscle symmetry, bracing pattern, postural alignment and to correctly interpret hypertonia that will offer more accurate translation of dysfunctional movement patterns.

    Topic 2: Fascia
The understanding of fascia or myofascial connections are now acknowledged to be fundamental to a successful rehabilitation programme. We’ll be discussing the role of fascia from a functional perspective, looking at the implications and impact within rehabilitation.

    Topic 3: Myofascial massage techniques

Application of appropriate soft tissue massage techniques to influence myofascial connections based on the postural assessments of the three case study dogs.

Attendees will be guided through a treatment, using Galen’s unique choice-led protocol, Positive PACT®, and be prompted on the appropriate techniques and areas for application.  This will be linked to each dog’s individual postural assessment.  You’ll learn how it can be effective when working with nervous or aggressive dogs.

    Topic 4: Functional movement

Understand the true meaning of functional movement and why it is so important within a canine specific rehabilitation programme. Assessing different dogs movement patterns and how that relates to the importance of an individualised programme.

How Galen Functional Biomechanics™ are specifically designed rehabilitative exercises which can be incorporated into your therapeutic practices.

Topic 5: Implementation of the Galen Comfort Scale (assessing pain and behaviour)
