My focus on Foundational Postural Analysis and my decision to pursue certification through Galen Myotherapy come from a deep desire to understand each dog I work with on a physical, emotional, and relational level so I can truly center their welfare.
After graduating from Northwest Canine Studies in 2023, I committed to providing force-free, positive reinforcement, relationship-centered training that supports safe, enriching lives for dogs and their humans. But my decades of experience—raising guide dog puppies in 4-H, working with Summit Assistance Dogs as a certified handler, and spending 23 years as a special education teacher with a therapy dog by my side—also showed me how much I didn’t yet know about canine body language, subtle communication, and the impact of physical discomfort on behavior.
Understanding that I once missed signs of stress or pain in dogs I loved has fueled my dedication to continuous learning. My work with Venus, whose early medical challenges and resulting reactivity required profound patience and attunement, strengthened my commitment to welfare-first, science-backed practices and helped me empathize deeply with clients who worry about their own dogs’ physical and emotional pain.
